A two-car Hyundai Customer Racing squad was formed in late 2018 following the announcement of Touring Car Racing (TCR) establishing in Australia from 2019 – TCR Australia Series.
The all-new customer racing squad was founded by owner Barry Morcom, in a direct deal with Hyundai Motorsport Germany in September of 2018.
Following the announcement of the new racing series, Will Brown and Nathan Morcom were selected as the two drivers for HMO Customer Racing in the inaugural year.
Brown claimed 7 wins and 15 podiums to claim the first TCR Australia drivers championship, as well being voted by his racing peers as the best driver in the category. Teammate Morcom had a consistent year on track, finishing P4 in the championship with 1 win and 2 podiums.
Spearheaded by Brown’s efforts on track, HMO Customer Racing also won the teams championship.
HMO Customer Racing currently operates from their team base in Western Sydney, as well as being the sales and spares agent for all Hyundai Motorsport programs in Australia and New Zealand. Customer Racing allows teams to purchase ready to race cars made to a strict set of performance and quality standards. It is affordable and fiercely competitive. Teams can compete knowing they have the full backing of HMO Customer Racing for any technical and logistical support.
In 2020 HMO Customer Racing will not only race in the TCR Australia Championship, but will also support privateer teams. The first privateer to drive the Hyundai i30 N TCR is Michael King with AH Racing. The 43 year old will make the step up from Improved Production where he won the New South Wales title for two consecutive years.
His experience at state level production car racing makes the transition for national level TCR a logical step. Michael will compete in the Panta Cup for semi-professional drivers.
